What to Watch This Weekend: ‘Firefly Lane’
While Season 1 of Firefly Lane just dropped on Netflix today, there has already been talk about a Season 2, although nothing has been officially confirmed.
The series, developed by Maggie Friedman is an adaptation of Kristin Hannah’s novel by the same name. Kristin Hannah also serves as an executive producer along with Katherine Heigl.
Firefly Lane covers the 30 year friendship of Tully and Kate from their meeting as tweens in 1974 to the present (which is 2003 in the series) and small flashes of the future. Tully, the coolest girl in school, and Kate, the introvert, are unlikely friends that share an everlasting bond, a bond that weathers every milestone in their lives, leading up to some sort of tragedy in the present.

78th Golden Globe Nominations: Full List, Snubs & Surprises
This morning Sarah Jessica Parker and Taraji P. Henson announced the nominees for the 78th Annual Golden Globe Awards virtually for the first time in history.
The award show will air on NBC on February 28th, coast to coast from 8pm-11pm ET/5pm-8pm. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are returning for the fourth time, after hosting together in 2013, 2014, and 2015. The hosts will each be in their respective cities, with Fey on the East Coast live from New York’s Rainbow Room, and Poehler on the West Coast live from the Beverly Hilton, in Beverly Hills, and nominees, from various locations around the world.
The 2021 Golden Globes will also honor Jane Fonda with the Cecil B. deMille Award, and Norman Lear with the Carol Burnett Award in addition to the categories announced today. The recently created Carol Burnett Award honors contributions to television, Lear will be the third recipient.
Satchel and Jackson Lee, the children of filmmaker and three-time Golden Globe nominee Spike Lee and producer and philanthropist Tonya Lewis Lee, will serve as the 2021 Golden Globe Ambassadors.
The Golden Globe Awards are produced by Dick Clark Productions in association with The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA). The Golden Globes are voted on by the HFPA, which is made up of about 90 international journalists.
Netflix and Amazon were among the streaming services that dominated the list of nominees, with their own films, such as “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” and “One Night in Miami, movies that the streaming companies purchased from traditional studios, including Aaron Sorkin’s “The Trial of the Chicago 7,” and also in the television categories with hits like Netflix’s “The Queen’s Gambit.”

Hours before nominations are announced and 26 days before showtime, the producers of the 78th annual Golden Globes are figuring out how the show will go on amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Originally scheduled for January, The Golden Globes will now be airing live on February 28th, from 8-11pm ET (5-8pm PT) on NBC and Tina Fey and Amy Poehler will be hosting together for the fourth time, after hosting in 2013, 2014, and 2015 ~but this time with a twist! For the first time ever the awards show will be bicoastal. Tina and Amy will be splitting their hosting duties from their respective home bases.
Tina will be in New York at the Rainbow Room and Amy will post up inside the Beverly Hilton. The nominees are expected to appear from various locations around the world though it remains to be seen if they will be gathered at central locations in other major cities.
Sarah Jessica Parker and Taraji P. Henson are set to announce nominees tomorrow (Wednesday 2.3.21) morning.

Regina King’s Directorial Debut ‘One Night in Miami’
Here is a look at the official trailer of Regina King’s feature directorial debut, One Night in Miami.
The film is based on Kemp Power’s play of the same name. One Night in Miami is a fictionalized account of a meeting between Malcolm X, Sam Cooke, Muhammad Ali (who at the time in 1964, when the film is set, was still going by Cassius Clay).
The fictionalized retelling imagines the conversations and what happens when Cassius Clay, Malcolm X, Jim Brown, and Sam Cooke find themselves in the same room discussing their roles in the civil rights movement and cultural upheaval of the 60s.
It seems almost hard to imagine the four legends sharing the same space, but of course, they did. On the night of February 25th, 1964, after Cassius Clay (Ali) defeated Sonny Liston and became the Heavyweight Champion of the World, the four men gathered together to celebrate.
It is a tricky task for an actor to take on a real-life icon, so these four leading men had some big shoes to fill. The amazing reviews they have been receiving is a testament to just how incredibly talented these actors are.

…’And Just Like That’ HBO Max Confirms ‘Sex and the City’ Reboot

Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis posted a teaser trailer and confirmed the news earlier today on Instagram that yes- there will be a Sex and the City spin-off and it will be titled And Just Like That.
HBO Max, also confirmed in a press release that the network has officially ordered 10 episodes, each 30 minutes long.
And Just Like That is being described as a 'new chapter’ in the Sex And The City world, that as you know, was based on the book by author Candice Bushnell and TV series (that ran from 1998-2004) by Darren Starr (who most recently created Emily In Paris for Netflix). The series will follow Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte as they navigate the journey from the complicated reality of life and friendship in their 30s to the even more complicated reality of life and friendship in their 50s.
Kim Cattrall, who has been very vocal for years about not wanting to return to the SITC franchise, chose not to be a part of the reboot. You probably remember when a third Sex and the City movie was in the beginning stages, but stopped there once Cattrall decided she did not want to be involved. Cattrall’s character of Samantha Jones is said to not be recast, but instead “eliminated entirely.” Eek.
Sarah Jessica Parker respond to two comments on her Instagram, both regarding whether Cattrall would be returning to the next chapter, and whether the two disliked each other.
SJP said, "No. I don't dislike her. I've never said that. Never would. Samantha isn't a part of this story. But she will always be a part of us. No matter where we are or what we do."

We Can’t Stop Crushing on Tim Riggins
Tim Riggins is a character in the show Friday Night Lights, portrayed by actor Taylor Kitsch. Tim Riggins is the Dillon Panthers fullback/running back in the television series. The character of Tim is similar to Don Billingsley from the original book and the 2004 film by the same name.
Tim Riggins on Friday Night Lights is a tough guy with a tender heart, supposedly just like Taylor Kitsch in real life.
Kitsch has also said his own personal experiences make him able to relate to the character of Tim Riggins. "My father is out of my life, more or less", Kitsch once revealed in an interview, "so I discover stuff that maybe I wasn't even dealing with as a person."
His background as a young and promising athlete also helped him connect with the role. Kitsch does admit to being different his character when it comes to his relations with women; "...I didn't have as many girls at my fingertips. I don't know many guys who do!"

Interesting Facts You May Not Have Known About Dawson’s Creek
Almost 23 years ago, on January 20, 1998 (while I was in college) Dawson's Creek made its debut. As freshmen in college (almost the same age as Katie Holmes IRL) - I had instantly found my new small-screen obsession in the teenage drama, along with a twenty-plus year fan love for Katie Holmes.
The series, created by Kevin Williamson, was centered around a tight-knit group of friends. Dawson Leery (James Van Der Beek), Joey Potter (Katie Holmes), Pacey Witter (Joshua Jackson), and Jen Lindley (Michelle Williams) were the main four, living in the fictional and picturesque town of Capeside, Massachusetts.
It didn't take long for Dawson’s, which ended up having a six season run, to become a pop culture phenomenon and one of my all-time favorite shows. Now, re-watching the entire series with my youngest daughter, we have been looking up random facts about the show and I just had to share some things we found interesting, that even I never heard before.

Producer Paul Stupin read Kevin Williamson’s Scream script and asked him if he had any ideas for TV shows, it was then that he came up with the idea to create a show based on himself and his friends as they were growing up.
Williamson pitched Dawson’s Creek as "Some Kind of Wonderful, meets Pump Up the Volume, meets James at 15, meets My So-Called Life, meets Little House on the Prairie".
Williamson created the character of Dawson and says Dawson was “basically him as a teen.”
Williamson had also spent his time making his own movies and idolizing Steven Spielberg. Dawson’s Creek was also a real place where Williamson would hang out with his friends.
The character of Pacey was based on one of Willamson’s real friends, who was also named Pacey.
Joey was also based on one of Williamson’s best friends, Fanny.
Fanny would sail to his house because it was closer by water than by road, and she would also sleep in his room at night, just like Joey does with Dawson.
Joey had a boy’s name, not only because she was a tomboy, but Williamson also used “Joey” as a private shout-out to his own sexuality. At the time he was writing the pilot, Williamson never thought he’d actually get to write a gay storyline- {although he did later with Jack in Season 2, more to come about the creation of Jack…}
Williamson had said that all of the major plot points, especially in the first two seasons, were taken directly from his life or from the lives of the other writers. Williamson has admitted that his family sometimes got uncomfortable with how closely the storylines resembled their real lives.
Selma Blair was also being considered for the role of Joey, but Katie Holmes had won over the creators with an audition tape she had filmed at home, with her mother playing Dawson.
Holmes initially refused to fly out to LA to meet with the creators because she was committed to starring in her high school’s play and she didn’t want to let her friends down. So the creators waited two weeks for her to be finished with the school play.
Katie Holmes and Joshua Jackson had immediate chemistry when they first met on set. They were both 18 at the start of the show and ending up dating in real life for a year.
Katie told Rolling Stone in 1998, “I'm just going to say that I met somebody last year. I fell in love, I had my first love, and it was something so incredible and indescribable that I will treasure it always."
The science project episode in Season 1 was what originally gave the writers the idea to get Joey and Pacey together, but they delayed the plot because they wanted to be careful not to sacrifice the characters’ likability.
Greg Berlanti pitched the Joey and Pacey plotline in Season 3 because it was what he wanted to see “as a fanboy”.
Joshua Jackson was up for the roles of both Pacey and Dawson, before the creators decided he was a better fit for Pacey.
Adrian Grenier also auditioned for the role of Dawson.
Dawson was the very last role to be cast, with James Van Der Beek getting the part the day before production started on the pilot.
At the time, the studio wasn’t convinced that James Van Der Beek was right for the role, but Kevin Williamson insisted he was, stating: “I wrote Dawson! I am Dawson! This is Dawson!”.
Alanis Morrisette’s “Hand In My Pocket” was originally meant to be the theme song, but they couldn’t get the rights to it.
Kevin Williamson and Paul Stupin shot the candid footage used in the main title sequence. The actors were told it was for a presentation and would never make it to air.
James Van Der Beek and Joshua Jackson lived together during filming of the first season, and Katie Holmes and Jackson dated, with Holmes describing him as “first love”.
Dawson’s Season 1 hair was inspired byBrad Pitt in The Devil’s Own.
The show creators had to get Steven Spielberg’s permission to use posters and short clips from his movies in the show. He watched the pilot and gave his approval, but requested that they take out a line where Dawson describes Jen as reminding him of Spielberg’s wife Kate Capshaw.
Jen’s grandfather was originally meant to wake up and be OK in Season 1, but the writer’s couldn’t find a way to include him in the story, so they ended up killing him off.
There were concerns the show was too “racy” in the beginning, and the writers had to change explicit references to masturbation to the euphemistic “walk your dog”.
The most complaints Dawson’s Creek got was about the Season 1 storyline were Pacey sleeps with his teacher.
While most of the cast were older than their teen characters, Mary Beth Peil, who played Grams, was much younger, and makeup was used to age her.
Kevin Williamson says Pacey’s Season 2 plotline was influenced by An Officer and a Gentleman, and he refers to the season as “Pacey’s Pond”.
Kevin Williamson left the show after Season 2 to create the drama Wasteland, which was cancelled after one season.
The coming out storyline involving Jack in Season 2 was based on writer Greg Berlanti’s own experiences at high school, right down to the poem that Jack reads in class.
When Jack kissed Ethan in the Season 3 finale, it was the first romantic kiss between two male characters on primetime TV.
Greg Berlanti, by then the showrunner, threatened to quit if the network didn’t allow the kiss to happen.
James Van Der Beek thinks the show jumped the shark with the Season 2 plotline where Joey wears a wire to catch her drug-dealing dad, but that it got back on the right track in following seasons.
Writer Tom Kapinos called the Eve arc in Season 3 a “colossal mistake”, and Kevin Williamson says that it was one of his least favorite plots. (I always thought it was so odd, they basically introduced Jen’s long lost half sister and then we never heard of her again!)
John Wesley Shipp, who played Mitch Leery, wanted to leave the show because he didn’t believe the adult characters were getting enough interesting storylines, so he agreed to be killed off. Tom Kapinos says he regrets the way Mitch was killed off, describing it as an “utter disaster”.
According to writer Dana Baratta, James Van Der Beek and Joshua Jackson weren’t getting along while filming Season 3, so the writers avoided putting them in scenes together – which helped fuel the Pacey vs Dawson storyline.
Dawson infamous ugly cry wasn’t originally in the script for the Season 3 finale. It was all James Van Der Beek’s own creative, spontaneous genius.
Michelle Williams felt insecure about how little time she got on-screen compared to the main love triangle of Pacey, Dawson, and Joey, but James Van Der Beek told her it was a good thing because she’d be able to distance herself from the show more easily in future.
James Van Der Beek once ran intoSteven Spielberg at a basketball game, and Spielberg told him, “I like the posters on your wall”.
Joshua Jackson would frequently moon people on set to make them laugh and help them relax.
James Van Der Beek bought champagne for the whole crew when Dawson finally lost his virginity.
Each year of filming, Joshua Jackson would take the cast and crew to see a hockey game. One year, he was arrested after getting in a fight with a security guard.
Busy Philipps, who played Audrey, was originally meant to do a guest spot on the show but the showrunner at the time, Tom Kapinos, liked her so much he decided to wait to use her as a recurring character when the gang went to college.
Originally, the series finale was very different: Dawson and Pacey reconcile their friendship but Joey leaves them both behind and heads to Paris, while a very much alive Jen moves back to New York. The storyline was instead used in Episode 22 in the final season.
The studio ended up asking Kevin Williamson to return to write the finale, and he agreed when they suggested it be set five years later, giving him space to tell new stories with the characters.
He decided to kill someone off because he thought grieving the death of one of their best friends was the only coming-of-age story the show hadn’t told yet. He chose Jen because she’d always felt like an “outsider”.
Michelle Williams questioned the decision to kill off Jen, saying “Well, what if we do a reunion show? What if we do a movie or something?”, to which Williamson replied, “Well, then you’ll be a ghost.”
Joey was originally going to pick Dawson over Pacey in the finale, but after writing it, Kevin Williamson admits something felt off, and he realized that while Joey and Dawson were soulmates, their love was platonic, and Pacey was Joey’s true romantic match.
Andie actually returned in the series finale, but her scenes were cut from the show due to time constraints.
Kevin Williamson says he doesn’t think a reunion or revival with the original cast would work, but he’s open to someone else taking on the next generation and telling a new story.

After binging the entire series of Gossip Girl -twice- A and I started watching Dawson’s Creek tonight.
I got her set up and had a few things to do, came back about half way through the first episode and I was so happy to see her enjoying it- although the first thing she did say was~
“I don’t mean to be saying anything bad about Joey,” (knowing my love for Katie Holmes, and that it started with her character of Joey) - “but…. she really needs more friends.” lol.
She went on to say how Joey is so focused on Dawson and that’s why she doesn’t like Jen (obv) - and she wasn’t wrong. After she fell asleep, I skipped ahead to season 3, the Joey and Pacey episodes and moments that were my favorite.

Netflix announced that every season of Dawson's Creek would be available for nostalgic binge-watching beginning on November 1st.
Why did Netflix change the Dawson's Creek theme song?
The simple answer is because Sony, the studio behind Dawson's Creek, didn't purchase the rights to it for streaming purposes.
When Dawson’s originally aired on the WB in 1998, Paula Cole's “I Don't Want to Wait” was introduced as its theme song. It was a staple in the shows run and still, over 20 years later, you automatically think of Dawson’s when you hear the iconic song.
Paula Cole’s ‘I Dont Wanna Wait’ was included in the first two seasons when they were released on DVD, but because sales weren't what Sony was hoping for, they decided to not shell out for the hit theme song in the later season releases.
This past year, when Dawson’s Creek shifted to streaming and DVD, it replaced the original theme song with a new one, Jann Arden's “Run Like Mad.”
Chad Michael Murray revealed his most embarrassing scene to film while he was on Dawson's Creek
Chad Michael Murray reminisced about his time on Season 5 of Dawson’s Creek during an episode of Busy Tonight. Chad was telling Busy about one scene in particular where he had to serenade Joey (Katie Holmes) outside of her dorm room. They filmed the scene on Duke University’s campus while school was in session and there were tons of regular, everyday people and students all around him (Murray also admitted he definitely can’t sing).
"I'm serenading Katie—or Joey—in the middle of the quad, and there's like 900 students just hanging out watching this," Chad remembered. "And then all of a sudden I hear, 'Hey, Chad!' and I look over, and some of my buddies I went to high school with are now attending Duke."
And to make the cringeworthy moment worse, one of Chad’s friends even approached him, saying, “Dude, didn’t know you could sing!”
"Can't! Can't play guitar either," Murray said. "But I'm faking it."
Actor or not, having to sing in front of that many people would make anyone nervous (Chad also admitted he most definitely can not sing.) We’re just glad Chad is able to look back at this moment and laugh.

Everything We Know About Netflix’s ‘Firefly Lane’

Season 1 of Firefly Lane on Netflix: Everything we know so far.
Netflix first announced their order for 10 episodes of Firefly Lane back in February of 2019.
Firefly Lane is an adaptation of the novel by the same name, from the prolific author Kristin Hannah, who also wrote Winter Garden, The Nightingale, and The Great Alone.
The book Firefly Lane was first released in 2013 but has since been rereleased with a Netflix logo on the cover.
I always debate reading the book before the series comes out, I already bought the book version and started it (but I’m only about 20 pages in.) I used to swear by this, but in the last few years I’ve been opting to watch the show or movie first- just so I can watch and review without a predetermined idea.
Obviously reading the book isn’t necessary before diving into the series, but it seems to be well recommended given ‘Firefly Lane’ is a New York Times Best Seller and winner of countless awards.
Firefly Lane is also the first of two books with Fly Away being the follow-up second book and is already being discussed to be covered in a second season of the series.
Set in the 1970s, Firefly Lane is a coming-of-age story that follows two unlikely friends, Tully Hart (Heigl) and Kate Mularkey (Chalke) and their relationship over three decades, chronicling the ups of downs of their complicated friendship.
Kate, the introvert, and Tully, the coolest girl in school, form a bond that weathers every milestone in their lives, leading up to a tragedy in the present.
Netflix describes the project as:
Based on the New York Times Bestselling book, Firefly Lane is the sweeping story of two inseparable best friends and their enduring, complicated bond, spanning four tumultuous decades.
Who’s behind Firefly Lane?
Brightlight Pictures, the production studio behind the show, is well-known for their TV and film adaptations.
Some of the projects from Brightlight Pictures include The Good Doctor on ABC, Descendants for the Disney Channel and a couple of Netflix projects including the Stephen King adaptation of 1922 and Haters Back Off!.
The show runner, Maggie Friedman’s previous projects include Eastwick for ABC, Witches of East End for Lifetime and most recently, No Tomorrow for The CW.
The drama was filmed in Canada last year. Katherine Heigl recalled the fond memories of being on set with Chalke and the rest of cast and crew in an Instagram post.
Katherine Heigl Wants Fans To Get Ready For 'Firefly Lane'
“A little over a year ago, before the world caught on fire I filmed a show for @netflix in Vancouver,” Heigl wrote.
Heigl described Tully and Kate, the protagonists as “two women who begin their journey together as two young girls in the 70s and rocket through life from then on out by each other’s side.”
Heigl continued by explaining how enamored she was with the story, and how she cherishes the novel, “Not only did I have the privilege of playing a character and telling a story I adore but I got to do it alongside a cast and crew I adore,” she continued.
“For me, it was the perfect storm of blessings and an unforgettable moment in my 30-year career. I truly could not be more proud of or more excited to share this show with all of you,” Heigl also wrote.
The Series Looks Like An Emotional Ride
Heigl then urged fans to read the novel if they haven’t already to get in the all prepped for the series, which doesn’t have a release date yet.
"We could all do with heart, humor, hope and love right about now,” Heigl also said.
She finished off her post praising the show’s costumes and soundtrack, featuring some “fantastic throwback looks and music”.
Chalke also celebrated the show and her co-star in an Instagram post.
“I had the best time making this with @katherineheigl and an incredible cast and crew,” Chalke wrote.
